I agree with everything you’ve said, particularly the own goal that the Astronaut Reserve pool could have represented all ESA space-fairing nations, sending a clear message to them that we want your participation and, ultimately, could have led to higher GDP contributions from those nations in future years, making ESA stronger overall.

I think a good idea for the ESA is to try to get all European states to contribute at least something monetarily like in the form of dues which would allow them at least to condone the fact that they are contributing members. This would make it possible to pull all the European nations into one group. With their latest accusations of astronauts and those to come like in the mentioned countries, Italy, Germany, Denmark, and France, Spain, the UK, Belgium, and Switzerland and lastly Austria, Czech Republic, Poland, and Sweden, they could then begin to say, 'the gangs all here' and be represented as one entity, instead of many with different directions. This could be the contributing factor that would bring all of Europe under one banner, the ESA Astronaut Corp.
